We are happy to advise planning consultants on any tree issues and how best to resolve the problem and progress with the project. If required, we can attend site meetings and liaise with the LPA during the planning process.

If necessary, we can carry out a pre-site acquisition assessment, advising on any tree-related constraints and whether statutory protection or planning policy may be issued. This information gives you a better understanding of the site and its potential, and can be shared with vendors to help determine the value of the site.

We can also provide a detailed survey on trees or an overview of their condition, prior to a pre-app meeting, ensuring you are well prepared and in a strong position to progress with the development.

If trees are growing within or close to the site boundary, we can carry out a Tree Survey that complies with BS5837. This is generally required when registering a planning application and, if not submitted, may be used to support a recommendation for refusal by the Tree Officer.

We recommend a tree survey be carried out as early in the layout design process as possible.

When the layout plan is fixed, we can provide the necessary Arboricultural Report, including an Arboricultural Impact Assessment, Tree Protection Plan and Arboricultural Method Statement. We generally advise submitting this information with the planning application. These reports outline the development’s impact on existing trees and tree removal, and the benefits of tree retention, including protected trees and new planting.

Once planning consent has been given, we can assist with the discharge of planning conditions and commencement of works on site, addressing such issues as tree protection, ecological constraints, tree surgery and clearance works. If planning permission is refused, we can advise on the best response relating to tree issues, and are competent in presenting written and verbal evidence at planning enquiries, progressing the project through to a new application or appeal.
